dad.jpgFather’s Day was invented by the card companies, of this I am very sure. They have Mother’s Day, Grandparent’s Day and whatever day they can be sure to sell many cards. Over the years of Father’s Day gifts, cards, phone calls one thing strikes me as odd; shouldn’t every day be a day of honoring our fathers? Why should we wait until the 3rd Sunday in June to do it all!? I used to do that allot but as I’ve gotten older and I observe my Dad getting older; I’ve had other thoughts. In the bible it says to: Honor thy father and mother. It doesn’t say just on Father’s Day or Mother’s Day, we should honor them all the time. I know that sometimes I felt that they were not to be honored, but that was mostly when I was a teenager and they wouldn’t let me do what I wanted! My how times have changed, I’ve changed, matured and see things in more perspective.(Probably because I am a parent too now).

I look at my father now and I see a quiet gentle man. True he didn’t have a formal education but how wise he is. He is not one to jump on the bandwagon and shout to the world his opinions, but in a quiet way voice his opinion. I see him now as he has aged and I see how much he has done for me in our lives, oh toooo much! But I understand it.Who would be a parent and watch your children go through troubles and not help then through it? It is in our very nature. Whenever I see my dad troubled and worried, I just want to take his troubles and make them go away just to see him smile again. My card to him this year says it all: Dad, you were there for me whenever I needed you, now it is my turn; I will be there whenever you need me for the rest of your life. I intend to try and make his life a little easier from now on if it is at all possible. All I can do is try, why? Because I love this man from the bottom of my soul.
